The Comptroller & Auditor General of India Shri Shashi Kant Sharma assumed office as Member of the United Nations Board of Auditors for a six year term upto June 2020 at the United NationsHeadquarters at New York.
Sania Mirza is appointed as Brand Ambassador of Telangana[24/07/2014]
Sania Mirza is appointed as 'Brand Ambassador' of Telangana. She will promote the new "state’s interests" in India and abroad. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao handed over a letter of appointment and also a cheque of Rs. one crore to her at an interaction session with industrialists in Hyderabad.
Agreement signed with China for setting up Chinese Industrial Parks[23/07/2014]
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation on Industrial Parks in India was signed between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of India and Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China on 30 June, 2014. Both the countries have agreed to cooperate to increase mutual investment in each other’s economies in accordance with the relevant domestic laws and regulations of each country, and on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. Both the countries have also agreed to share relevant information on the regulatory framework and investment priorities/projects as may be needed during the preparation of investment proposals. Both the countries have also agreed to provide necessary local assistance to implement projects under this MoU.
Joko Widodo wins Indonesian presidential race[22/07/2014]
The governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo, has convincingly won Indonesia's presidential race. Widodo, who will be Indonesia's first president without some kind of link to the autocratic past, won 53 percent of the vote.

2) Shri David Rasquinha, presently Executive Director, Export-Import (EXIM) Bank.
Kerala tourism bags PATA awards[18/07/2014]
Kerala Tourism has bagged two honours at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Awardsfor this year. The state tourism department's 'Responsible Tourism' initiative in Kumarakom and its online newsletter have won the PATA Gold awards, said an official statement quoting the Macau Government Tourism Office, which supports and sponsors the awards.
India to host next IBSA summit[18/07/2014]
India will host the 7th IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) summit in 2015. The announcement was made following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Jacob Zuma in Brasília. IBSA is a trilateral initiative between India, Brazil and South Africa “to promote, inter-alia, South-South cooperation and exchange.”
Justice G.S.Singhvi(Retd) nominated as Arbitrator on behalf of the Govt. [18/07/2014]
Justice G.S.Singhvi (Retd), former judge of the Supreme court of India, has been nominated as Arbitrator on behalf of Government of India in the arbitration initiated by Reliance Industries Limited, Niko(Neco) Limited and BP Exploration (Alpha) Limited against the Government under the block KG-DWN-98/3 (KG-D6). RIL had nominated Sir David Steel as their arbitrator.
Next BRICS Summit to be held in Russian city of Ufa[16/07/2014]
The next year's BRICS Summit will be held in the Russian city of Ufa after the grouping's successful meeting in Brazil that saw an agreement being reached on establishing a development bank and a contingency reserve arrangement.
Smt Rina Mitra appointed as Director NICFS [15/07/2014]
Smt. Rina Mitra has been appointed as Director, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science (NICFS) at ADG level. Port Call at Vladivostok and Exercise Indra 2014[15/07/2014]
Ships of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy, viz., Shivalik, Ranvijay and Shakti, under the Command of Rear Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, arrived at Vladivostok. The major aims of the visit are strengthening and development of friendly relations between the navies of the two countries and conduct of joint Naval exercise INDRA 2014. In the exercise, the Russian Navy will be represented by guided-missile cruiser Varyag, destroyer Bystry, large landing craft Peresvet along with supply vessels etc.

Navy get first indigenous anti submarine warship INS Kamorta[12/07/2014]
India's first indigenously built anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta is handed over to the Indian Navy on 12th July 2014. INS Kamorta, first in its class of four ASW corvettes being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, Kolkata for the Navy, is the first warship ever built in the country with almost 90 per cent of indigenous content. It is also the first warship manufactured in India with indigenously developed special grade high-tensile steel produced by state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission announced for rural areas[12/07/2014]
With a focus on building rural infrastructure, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his maiden budget said, "The Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission will be launched to deliver integrated project based infrastructure in the rural areas." This will also include development of economic activities and skill development. The preferred mode of delivery would be through PPPs while using various scheme funds.
Sanjay Kishan Kaul is Chief Justice of Madras High Court[11/07/2014]
President Pranab Mukherjee has cleared the transfer of the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Sanjay Kishan Kaul, to the Madras High Court, where he will replace acting Chief Justice, S.K. Agnihotri.
Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana [11/07/2014]
“Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana” for feeder separation will be launched to augment power supply to the rural areas and for strengthening sub-transmission and distribution systems. Announcing this during his maiden Budget Speech in the Lok Sabha by the Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley. A sum of Rs. 500 crores has been set aside for this scheme.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana Launched [11/07/2014]
Government has introduced a new scheme called Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, which will help in generating awareness and improving the efficiency of delivery of welfare services meant for women with an initial corpus of Rs 100 crore. The Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley announced in his maiden Budget Speech that government would focus on campaigns to sensitize people of this country towards the concerns of the girl child and women. 
Five New IITs and Five New IIMS will be Set Up in the States [11/07/2014]
The Government has announced to set-up five more IITs in the Jammu & Kashmir, Chattisgrah, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Similarly, five new IIMs will be set-up in the States ofHimachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra. For this, a sum of Rs. 500 crore has been allocated in the Budget. Presenting his Maiden Budget in Parliament here today, the Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley said that the country needs a large number of Centres of higher learning which are world class and accordingly declare to set-up Jai Prakash Narayan National Centre for Excellence in humanities in Madhya Pradesh.
Finance Minister Proposes Rs 200 Crore for Power Reforms and Rs 500 Crore for Water Reforms[11/07/2014]
The Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley proposes Rs. 200 crore for power reforms and Rs. 500 crore for water reforms to make Delhi a truly World Class City. Making his maiden Budget Speech in Lok Sabha, the Finance Minister announced that Rs. 50 crore is being provided to solve the long term water supply issues to the capital region. For that construction of long pending Renuka Dam would be taken up on priority.
Rs 100 Crore for Development of Organic Farming in the North Eastern Region [11/07/2014]
In his maiden budget speech Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley said, Rs. 100 crore is being provided for development of organic farming in North Eastern States in the current financial year. With a growing global demand for organic food, North Eastern States will benefit from development of commercial organic farming, the Minister added.
Miroslav Klose scores 16th World Cup goal to break all time record[09/07/2014]
Germany striker Miroslav Klose scored after 23 minutes of the World Cup semi-final against Brazil on 8th July 2014 to become the tournament's all-time leading scorer with 16 goals.
Klose had moved level with former Brazil striker Ronaldo on 15 when he scored in Germany's 2-2 draw against Ghana in the group stage.
Pune University renamed to Savitribai Phule University[08/07/2014]
Pune University is now Savitribai Phule University. The Maharashtra government took the decision to give the 19th century reformer's name to the university. The move comes after several organisations representing backward classes made demands to name it after Savitribai. The reformer belonged to a backward class. Along with her husband and social reformerMahatma Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai started the country's first school for girls in 1868.
Poverty, child, maternal deaths high in India: U.N. report[08/07/2014]
India continues to battle poverty, child and maternal deaths, according to a United Nations report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) that said while several key global targets have been met, more sustained effort is needed to cover disparities by the 2015 deadline. The ‘Millennium Development Goals Report 2014’, launched by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 7th July 2014.

New poverty line: Rs 32 in villages and Rs 47 in cities[07/07/2014]
Those spending over Rs 32 a day in rural areas and Rs 47 in towns and cities should not be considered poor, an expert panel headed by former RBI governor C Rangarajan said in a report submitted to the Modi government. The recommendation, which comes just ahead of the budget session of Parliament, is expected to generate fresh debate over the poverty measure as the committee's report has only raised the bar marginally.

India Signs Loan Agreement with World Bank for IBRD Assistance of USD $500 Million[02/07/2014]
The Government of India and the World Bank signed a Loan Agreement for World Bank (IBRD) assistance of USD $500 million for National Highways Inter-connectivity Improvement Project (NHIIP). This Agreement was signed by Shri Nilaya Mitash, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of the Government of India and Mr. Michael Haney, World Bank Operations’ advisers in India on behalf of the World Bank. The objective of the project is to improve the National Highway network connectivity to less developed States and enhance institutional capacity of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to better manage the highway network.
